SPLENDOR Project Kicks off: Big Developments Coming Soon

The SPLENDOR project has officially begun, following its kick-off meeting in Ghent on 9–10 September 2025. Over the next three years, the consortium will work to reinvent how Europe valorises lignin by transforming black liquor a byproduct of the pulp and paper industry into high-value aromatic chemicals. Supported by €7.3 million from the Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU) and coordinated by Ghent University alongside 10 partners and 2 affiliated entities across Europe, SPLENDOR aims to demonstrate one-step lignin depolymerisation, integrate this technology directly into pulp mills.

This marks the beginning of an ambitious journey toward a more circular, bio-based European industry and this is only the start. More updates, stories, and project milestones will be announced soon. Follow us to stay informed about SPLENDOR’s progress, breakthroughs, and upcoming events.
