Partners

Ghent University (UGent) is one of Europe’s leading universities, with more than 50,000 students and 15,000 staff members. It provides high-quality, research-driven education across all academic disciplines.

Within SPLENDOR, two UGent research groups are actively involved: the Industrial Catalysis and Adsorption Technology group (INCAT), which has expertise in biomass valorization, catalyst design, and separation technologies, and the Laboratory for Chemical Technology (LCT), which specializes in chemical process development, renewable feedstocks, and circular, low-carbon technologies. Both groups combine pioneering research with education to drive sustainable chemical innovation.

Main Task

As a coordinating partner, UGent ensures the integration of research and innovation across the consortium, while also contributing to diverse scientific tasks. Its research within SPLENDOR includes developing advanced kinetic and thermodynamic models to optimize lignin depolymerization and separation, applying state-of-the-art analytical methods to characterize lignin-derived products, and supporting the design of scalable, environmentally responsible processes.
